Arizona Contractor License Bond: ROC Bond Amounts and Cost
Arizona contractors must post a license bond with the Registrar of Contractors (ROC). The amount depends on whether the license is residential, commercial, or dual, whether it is a general or specialty license, and your estimated annual volume. Required amounts range from $2,500 to $100,000, and published premiums for many of these bonds start around $50 a year.
This guide lists the ROC bond amounts, explains the residential recovery fund, shows published costs, and covers how the bond is filed and kept in force. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency, and a licensed agent can help you compare bond options.

Filing and keeping the bond in force
- Who can issue it. The surety must be authorized to write surety business in Arizona. A cash bond or certificate of deposit from a bank operating in Arizona is also accepted.
- Continuous bonds. ROC bonds run continuously with no termination date, though the surety bills periodic premiums.
- Cancellation. The surety must give 30 days’ notice before canceling; replace the bond in time or the license will be suspended.
- Changing the amount. You can increase the bond at any time, but decreases take effect only at renewal for the next fiscal year.
- Cash bonds are held until two years after the license ends.

Bond vs. insurance for contractors
The license bond protects the public and the state, not your business. If the surety pays a valid claim, you must repay it. To protect your business from injury and property damage claims, contractors usually also carry general liability insurance, and those with employees need workers’ compensation. See licensed, bonded, and insured for how the pieces fit together.
