The out-of-state contractor bond
Contractors whose principal place of business is outside Iowa must file a $25,000 bond with the Division of Labor (Iowa Division of Labor). A branch office in Iowa does not make a contractor in-state, and older guidance ties the bond to Iowa jobs of $5,000 or more (City of Des Moines contractor law summary). File the bond before starting work in Iowa.
How much an Iowa contractor bond costs
Premiums are a small percentage of the $25,000 bond and depend on credit. See our surety bond cost calculator and general liability insurance guide.
