Iowa Landscaping Contractor Insurance: DIAL Registration, Pesticide Rules, and Coverage

Illustration of a lawn, trees, flower beds, and a mower for Iowa landscaping contractor insurance

Iowa has no statewide landscaping trade license. Landscapers who earn $2,000 or more a year from construction work, such as hardscape and installation, must register with the Division of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL), and out-of-state contractors file a $25,000 bond. Commercial pesticide applicators need at least $100,000 each of property damage and public liability coverage, and contractors with employees must show workers’ compensation.

This guide covers Iowa landscaping licenses, required coverage, and typical costs. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency licensed in Iowa, and a licensed agent can compare quotes for your landscaping business.

  • Tools and equipment (inland marine): mowers, trimmers, blowers, and skid steers on job sites or in transit.
