North Carolina Surety Bonds: Requirements and Costs by Bond Type

Illustration of a signed surety bond with a seal and shield, titled North Carolina Surety Bonds

North Carolina requires surety bonds for motor vehicle dealers, for owners who need a bonded vehicle title, and for contractors on larger public construction projects. Dealers need $50,000 plus $25,000 for each additional location, title bonds equal 1½ times the vehicle’s value, and public construction bonds equal 100% of the contract. This guide lists the most common North Carolina bonds and what they cost.

Each bond links to a detailed guide with official sources. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency licensed in North Carolina, and a licensed agent can help you find and file the bond you need.
