Florida Electrical Contractor Insurance: $800,000 License Minimum and Workers’ Comp

Illustration of an electrical panel, conduit, and outlets for florida electrical contractor insurance

Florida sets higher license insurance minimums for electrical contractors than for plumbing or roofing contractors. Fla. Admin. Code R. 61G6-5.008 requires liability of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence plus $500,000 of property damage, or an $800,000 combined single limit, including products and completed operations. Licensees must also keep workers’ comp or an exemption.

This guide covers Florida electrical insurance minimums, workers’ comp rules, coverage, and typical costs. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency licensed in Florida, and a licensed agent can compare quotes for your electrical business.

Coverage most Florida electricians carry

  • General liability: third-party injuries and property damage, such as a wiring fault that starts a fire in a customer’s home.
  • Business owner’s policy: general liability bundled with property coverage for your shop, wire, and stock.
  • Workers’ compensation: medical bills and lost wages if an employee is hurt, including shocks and falls.
  • Commercial auto: service vans and bucket trucks that carry crews and equipment.
  • Tools and equipment (inland marine): meters, benders, lifts, and power tools on job sites or in transit.
  • Commercial umbrella: extra limits on top of general liability and auto, often required on commercial jobs.
