South Carolina HVAC Contractor Insurance: Residential and Mechanical Licenses
South Carolina splits HVAC licensing by job type. Residential HVAC work over $500 needs a Residential HVAC license from the Residential Builders Commission, and commercial mechanical work over $10,000 needs a mechanical contractor license with an AC, heating, or packaged equipment classification. Mechanical licenses use financial groups that cap job size, and employers with four or more workers must carry workers’ compensation.
This guide covers South Carolina HVAC licensing, required coverage, and typical costs. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency licensed in South Carolina, and a licensed agent can compare quotes for your HVAC business.

- Workers’ compensation: medical bills and lost wages if an employee is hurt, including falls from roofs and attics, burns, and lifting injuries.

- Tools and equipment (inland marine): gauges, recovery machines, vacuum pumps, and brazing kits on job sites or in transit.
