Arizona Roofing Contractor Insurance: ROC Licensing, Bonds, and Coverage
Arizona roofers are licensed by the Registrar of Contractors (ROC) as R-42 (residential), C-42 (commercial), or CR-42 (both), and must post a license bond. The ROC does not set a statewide general liability minimum, but employers must carry workers’ compensation, and most clients require liability coverage.
This guide covers Arizona roofing licenses, bonds, required coverage, and typical costs. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency licensed in Arizona, and a licensed agent can compare quotes for your roofing business.

Required and expected coverage
The ROC does not list a statewide general liability minimum for roofing, but project owners, general contractors, and lenders usually require it. Arizona employers must provide workers’ compensation for their employees (NEXT Insurance).
- General liability: third-party injuries and property damage, such as a dropped bundle that damages a car or a leak that ruins a homeowner’s ceiling.
- Workers’ compensation: medical bills and lost wages if a crew member is hurt, including falls.
- Commercial auto: trucks and trailers used to haul crews, materials, and debris.
- Tools and equipment (inland marine): ladders, nail guns, and compressors on job sites or in transit.
- Commercial umbrella: extra liability limits on top of general liability and auto, often required on commercial jobs.
