Washington Auto Dealer Bond: $30,000 Requirement and Cost

Washington Auto Dealer Bond guide illustration

Washington requires motor vehicle dealers, and mobile home, park trailer, and travel trailer dealers, to carry a $30,000 surety bond under RCW 46.70.070, with a bond for each in-state business location. Miscellaneous dealers need $5,000. Published prices for the $30,000 bond start around $196 a year.

This guide covers bond amounts, who the bond protects, key rules, and costs. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency, and a licensed agent can help with your bond and dealer insurance.

Key rules

  • Vehicle dealers need a bond for each in-state business location and must cover temporary subagencies.
  • Retail purchasers and non-dealer consignors can sue the dealer and surety for losses from violations of the dealer law.
  • If the bond is exhausted or canceled, the dealer license is automatically canceled.
