Honda Accord Car Insurance: Rates and Discounts
Honda Accord car insurance is usually moderately priced for a midsize sedan, but one factor stands out: the Accord was the second most-stolen vehicle in the United States in 2025, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Theft risk feeds into comprehensive coverage, so where you park and which model year you drive can matter more than usual.
This guide covers what insurers weigh when they rate an Accord, how the hybrid and turbocharged trims compare, which discounts Accord owners commonly qualify for, and how to choose limits and deductibles. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency and can compare several insurance companies for many drivers.

How theft risk affects Accord insurance
Comprehensive coverage pays if your car is stolen, vandalized, or damaged by things like hail, fire, or hitting an animal. Insurers set comprehensive rates using claim data by model and location, so a car that thieves target more often will generally cost more to cover in areas where thefts happen.
Much of the Accord's theft total comes from older models that lack modern anti-theft technology and from demand for parts such as catalytic converters. Newer Accords with smart keys and immobilizers are harder to steal, but they are not immune to relay attacks and break-ins. What this means in practice:
- Keep comprehensive coverage on any Accord you could not afford to replace, even if it is paid off. Dropping it to save money removes theft protection.
- Tell your insurer about anti-theft devices. Factory immobilizers, tracking systems, and steering wheel locks may earn a discount with some insurers.
- Park in a garage or well-lit area when you can. Garaging address is part of your rate, and a secured spot reduces risk even if it does not change the price.
- Consider a catalytic converter shield on older Accords; comprehensive typically covers converter theft, minus your deductible.
Accord trims and what they mean for your premium
The 2026 Accord splits into two powertrains. The table below shows how that split can affect what insurers consider when they rate the car. These are tendencies, not fixed price differences, and every insurer weighs them differently.
| Trims | Powertrain | Insurance considerations |
|---|---|---|
| LX, SE | 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, front-wheel drive | Lowest purchase price in the lineup, which can mean lower collision and comprehensive costs |
| Sport, Sport-L | 2.0-liter hybrid system with two electric motors | Larger wheels and hybrid components can raise repair costs compared with the LX |
| EX-L, Touring | 2.0-liter hybrid system | Higher purchase price and added technology; Touring is the most expensive Accord to replace |
Trim lineup reflects the 2026 model year. Earlier Accords offered different engines, including a 2.0-liter turbo on some 2018 to 2022 trims.
Because collision and comprehensive premiums follow repair and replacement cost, a Touring will usually cost a bit more to insure than an LX of the same year. Liability premiums are driven mostly by the driver, so they tend to be similar across trims.
Discounts Accord owners commonly qualify for
Discount availability depends on the insurer and the state. These are the ones that most often apply to Accord drivers:
| Discount | Who usually qualifies | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-policy | Drivers who also insure a home, condo, or rental with the same company | Often one of the larger discounts available |
| Safe driver or claims-free | Drivers with no at-fault accidents or violations for several years | Look-back periods vary, commonly three to five years |
| Anti-theft device | Vehicles with immobilizers, alarms, or tracking | Especially worth asking about for an Accord |
| Telematics | Drivers willing to share driving data through an app or device | Can lower or, with some insurers, raise the rate based on behavior |
| Good student | Full-time students who meet a grade threshold, often a B average | Helpful when a young driver uses the family Accord |
| Paid in full or autopay | Policyholders who pay the term up front or by automatic payment | Small but easy to get |

Setting limits and deductibles on an Accord
Start with liability. State minimum limits rarely cover a serious crash, and anything above the limit can become your personal responsibility. Many drivers choose limits such as $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for bodily injury, or higher if they have savings or a home to protect. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage at matching limits protects you when the other driver is the problem.
For a financed or leased Accord, the lender requires collision and comprehensive and will often limit your deductible. On a paid-off Accord, compare the cost of physical damage coverage with the car's value. Given the Accord's theft exposure, keeping comprehensive while raising its deductible is often a better trade-off than dropping it entirely. Our full coverage car insurance page explains what "full coverage" typically includes.
If you drive for a rideshare or delivery app, tell your agent. A personal auto policy can exclude coverage while you are logged into an app, and an endorsement or separate coverage may be needed.
Insuring an older or used Accord
Because the Accord has been one of the best-selling cars in the country for decades, many owners insure one that is several generations old. Older Accords are where theft risk is concentrated, so it pays to think carefully before cutting coverage on them.
Questions to ask about an older Accord
- What is the car worth today? After a total loss or theft, collision and comprehensive pay the actual cash value, minus your deductible. Check a pricing guide for your exact year, trim, and mileage.
- What does physical damage coverage cost per year? If you are paying a large share of the car's value each year, consider a higher deductible before dropping coverage.
- Could you replace the car from savings? If not, comprehensive is protecting you against a realistic theft risk.
- Does the car have an immobilizer? Ask your agent how each insurer treats factory and aftermarket anti-theft equipment for your model year.
Our guide to comprehensive vs. collision coverage explains how each coverage pays and when it may make sense to keep only one of them.
Honda Sensing and repair costs on newer Accords
On newer Accords, the trade-off runs the other way. Honda Sensing uses a camera at the top of the windshield and a radar unit at the front of the car. These systems are designed to help prevent crashes, but when a crash or windshield replacement does happen, the sensors may need to be recalibrated. That can make a minor repair more expensive than it would have been on an older car. Ask whether a policy includes glass coverage and how it handles calibration. If you carry passengers often, also review medical payments or personal injury protection, depending on your state, along with uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage.
What you need for an Accord insurance quote
Bring these details to get an accurate Accord quote that will not change after the policy starts.
- VIN or model year and trim. This confirms whether the Accord is a turbo or hybrid model and which anti-theft and safety equipment it has.
- Anti-theft details. Note any aftermarket alarm, tracker, or steering wheel lock so the insurer can apply available discounts.
- Drivers and history. License numbers and dates of birth for every driver, plus accidents, claims, or tickets from the past several years.
- Current policy. Your declarations page shows existing limits and deductibles for a fair comparison.
- Where the car is parked. The overnight address, and whether you have a garage, affects comprehensive pricing.
Honda Accord insurance FAQs
Is the Honda Accord expensive to insure?
It is usually moderately priced for a midsize sedan. Theft risk can raise comprehensive costs in some areas, while standard safety technology and common parts help keep collision costs reasonable.
Why is the Accord stolen so often?
Much of the theft total involves older Accords that are easier to steal and valuable for parts. Newer models are harder to steal, but no car is theft-proof, which is why comprehensive coverage matters.
Does the Accord Hybrid cost more to insure?
Hybrid trims have a higher purchase price and more complex components, which can raise collision and comprehensive costs. The difference varies by insurer, so compare quotes on the exact trim.
Can I get a discount for a steering wheel lock or tracker?
Some insurers offer anti-theft discounts for approved devices. Ask your agent which devices each company recognizes.
Should I drop comprehensive on an older Accord?
Be careful. Comprehensive is what pays if the car is stolen, and older Accords are frequent theft targets. Raising the deductible is often a better way to save.
Does comprehensive cover a stolen catalytic converter?
Usually, yes. Comprehensive generally pays for theft of parts, including a catalytic converter, minus your deductible. If you only carry liability, the theft is not covered, so check your policy before assuming you are protected.
