Illinois Auto Dealer Bond: $50,000 Requirement and Cost

Illustration of a signed surety bond with a seal and shield, titled Illinois Auto Dealer Bond

Illinois requires motor vehicle dealers who sell, deal, or broker five or more vehicles a year to be licensed and to file a $50,000 surety bond with the Secretary of State’s Dealer Licensing Section. Bonds commonly expire December 31, and published prices start around $250 to $410 a year depending on the surety and credit.

This guide covers who needs the bond, renewal timing, and costs. Blake Insurance Group is an independent agency, and a licensed agent can help with your bond and dealer insurance.
