Insurify vs. Jerry: Insurance Shopping Apps Compared
Insurify vs. Jerry is a comparison of two licensed insurance agencies that help you shop, not of insurance companies. Both collect your information, return quotes from partner insurers, and earn commissions when you buy. They differ in how they present quotes, how they help you switch, and how they follow up after you buy.
This independent comparison explains how each platform works, what to know about data and credit checks, and how to use either one without losing sight of coverage. Blake Insurance Group is also an independent agency; we are not affiliated with Insurify or Jerry, and we can provide a separate comparison from the companies we represent.

How quote platforms work
Both platforms ask for information about your drivers, vehicles, and current insurance, then request rates from partner insurers. Some prices are bindable quotes; others are estimates that can change after the insurer verifies your driving record, claims history, and, where allowed, credit-based insurance score. When you buy, the insurer issues the policy and the platform earns a commission. Neither platform includes every insurer, and some large companies sell only through their own agents or directly.
Data, privacy, and follow-up
- What you share. Expect to provide names, dates of birth, license numbers, vehicle details, and insurance history.
- Credit checks. Jerry says viewing quotes uses a soft inquiry that does not affect your credit score; some insurers may run a hard inquiry when you buy.
- Who gets your data. Insurify says it shares information with partner insurers to generate quotes and may contact you about other products. Jerry says it does not sell your data or share it for marketing.
- Contact. Expect emails, texts, or calls. Review each platform's privacy controls.
Do not let price hide coverage differences
Quote lists are often sorted by price, but the lowest price can reflect lower limits, higher deductibles, or missing coverages. Before buying through either platform:
- Confirm the liability and uninsured motorist limits match what you want.
- Check deductibles and add-ons such as rental and roadside.
- Note the legal name of the insurer issuing the policy.
- Read any fees, including broker fees, before you pay.
Our guide to uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage explains why those limits matter.
Who each may fit
- Shoppers who want a broad, web-based price scan may like Insurify's comparison pages.
- Shoppers who want an app that monitors rates and handles switching may like Jerry.
- Households with complex needs, such as multiple properties, business use, or high assets, may benefit from an agent who reviews coverage in detail.
- Anyone can use a platform for a quick market check and then confirm details with the insurer or an agent.
How to use either platform wisely
- Enter accurate information, including all drivers and the true garaging address.
- Set your preferred limits and deductibles before comparing prices.
- Screenshot or save each quote's coverage details.
- Confirm the final price after the insurer verifies your information.
- Start the new policy before canceling the old one.
- Compare against a quote from an independent agent or directly from an insurer that does not appear on the platform.

Platforms vs. a traditional independent agency
Insurify and Jerry are themselves licensed agencies, so the main differences from a traditional independent agency are format and service. Platforms emphasize speed and self-service; a traditional agency typically emphasizes conversation and ongoing coverage review. Each has access only to the insurers it is appointed with, so getting quotes from more than one source can reveal options the others do not have.
Coverage terms to check on any platform quote
Quote platforms make price easy to see, but coverage details can be buried. Check these terms on every quote before you buy.
| Coverage | What it pays for | What to match |
|---|---|---|
| Bodily injury liability | Injuries you cause to others | Per-person and per-accident limits, such as 100/300 |
| Property damage liability | Damage you cause to others' property | Same limit on both quotes, such as $100,000 |
| Uninsured/underinsured motorist | Your injuries when the at-fault driver lacks enough coverage | Same limits; ideally equal to your liability limits |
| Collision | Damage to your car from a crash | Same deductible |
| Comprehensive | Theft, fire, hail, flood, animal strikes, glass | Same deductible; note any glass option |
| Medical payments or PIP | Medical costs for you and passengers | Same limit; PIP rules depend on your state |
| Rental and roadside | Transportation during repairs; towing | Same daily and total limits |
Limits shown are examples, not recommendations. State minimum requirements differ.
Understanding fees and how platforms are paid
Insurance agencies, including online platforms, are generally paid commissions by the insurers they sell for. That commission is built into the premium and is not a separate charge. Some agencies also charge a broker or agency fee where state law allows it; Jerry says it may charge a disclosed broker fee. Insurify says it earns commissions and advertising revenue and may be paid when you click through to an insurer. None of this is unusual, but you should know it before buying:
- Look for any fee shown separately from the premium at checkout.
- Ask whether the fee is refundable if you cancel.
- Understand that a platform's ranking order may reflect partnerships as well as price.
Warning signs when shopping online
- A quote far below every other quote, which may reflect missing drivers, low limits, or information the insurer has not verified yet.
- Pressure to buy immediately before you can review coverage.
- Requests to pay someone other than the insurer or a licensed agency.
- Companies you cannot find on your state insurance department's license lookup.
Any licensed agency, online or local, can be checked through your state's insurance department.
How your state changes platform quotes
Car insurance is regulated state by state, which affects any company comparison:
- Minimum liability limits differ widely. State minimums are often far below what a serious accident costs, so many drivers choose higher limits.
- No-fault states require personal injury protection, which changes how injury claims are paid.
- Rating factors differ. Some states limit or ban the use of credit-based insurance scores, gender, or occupation in pricing.
- Uninsured motorist rules differ. Some states require it; others require insurers to offer it and let you reject it in writing.
- Company availability differs. A company's programs, discounts, and appetite in one state may not match another.
A comparison that is accurate in one state can be wrong in the next, which is another reason to compare actual quotes for your address rather than national averages.
What you need before using any quote platform
Having these ready makes platform quotes more accurate.
- Driver details. Licenses and dates of birth for every household driver.
- Vehicle VINs. For accurate rating.
- Current declarations page. To match limits and deductibles.
- Driving history. Accidents and violations in recent years.
- Desired limits. Decide on liability and deductibles before comparing price.

Do platforms sell home insurance too?
Both platforms have offered home and renters comparisons in addition to auto, depending on state. Check each site for current products.
