Claims

How to file and track a American National claim

American National offers online claims for home, auto, farm, and business policies. Policyholders can log in to file a claim. People who do not have a policy can continue as a guest. The company’s claims page provides online filing links and additional claim information. Before you begin, have your policy number, incident details, location, and contact information ready.

For an auto or homeowners claim, call 1-800-333-2860. The same number is listed for farm and ranch and business claims. Life and annuity claims use 1-800-615-7372. Other listed claim numbers include 1-800-899-6520 for health and disability and 1-800-899-6502 for specialty products.

For claim-status questions involving homeowners, auto, farm and ranch, or business policies, email Claims@AmericanNational.com. Separate status addresses are listed for life, annuity, health, and disability claims. Include your claim number, policy number, and current contact information so the claims team can locate your file.

Before you report a claim

• Stay safe first. If anyone is hurt, call 911. If your car is drivable and it's safe, move it out of traffic.
• Collect the details. The NAIC suggests getting the other driver's name, address, and insurance company, the other car's make, model, year, and plate, witness contact information, and the officer's name and badge number.
• Note the time and place. Write down the date, time, and exact location, and take photos of the vehicles and the scene.
• Report it promptly. The NAIC advises calling the number on your proof-of-insurance card as soon as you can. Many companies also take claims in their app.
• Keep a claim file. Save your claim number, your adjuster's name, estimates, receipts, and notes from every call.

What happens after you file

After you report a claim, American National assigns an adjuster who reviews the facts, your coverage, and the damage. The NAIC recommends cooperating with the adjuster and asking questions if anything is unclear. Your deductible is usually subtracted from a covered payment, and if you have a car loan, the check may be made out to you and your lender.

If you disagree with a decision, ask for a written explanation and try to resolve it with American National first. If that doesn't work, you can contact your state insurance department. In Arizona, that's the Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions.

Billing

How to pay your American National bill

American National provides an online Make A Payment page for one-time payments. The payment portal covers Personal & Commercial, Life, Annuity, and Health products. After making a payment, save the confirmation and review your account or billing statement to confirm that the payment posted.

Billing phone numbers vary by policy type. Personal and Commercial billing uses 1-800-899-6519. Life billing uses 1-800-899-6806, Annuity billing uses 1-800-252-9546, and Health billing uses 1-800-899-6503. Have your policy number and the payment details available when you contact the billing team.

Whichever method you choose, save your billing statements and payment confirmations until the policy term ends. If you change banks or cards, update your payment details with American National before the next draft date so a payment doesn't fail.

• Use official channels only. Pay through American National's website, app, or the number on your statement, or through your agent.
• Check the web address before you enter card or bank details, and be wary of payment links sent by text or email.
• Keep your confirmation number for every payment.
• Ask about autopay or paid-in-full options. Some companies offer them.
• Act quickly on a late notice. Grace periods vary by company and state, and a missed payment can lead to cancellation.
